Creating a cauliflower pizza base is a fantastic way to enjoy a healthier version of a traditional favourite. The process involves transforming cauliflower into a dough-like consistency, which then serves as the crust for your pizza. Here’s a simple way to make a cauliflower pizza base perfect to top with freshly made Butter chicken curry and yoghurt.
Ingredients
- 1 head of cauliflower (about 2 to 3 cups once processed)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (oregano, basil, thyme, etc.)
- Salt and garlic powder to taste
Directions
- Prepare the Cauliflower:
Begin by preheating your oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Remove the stems and leaves from your cauliflower and chop the florets into chunks. Place the chunks into a food processor and pulse until you achieve a grainy, rice-like texture. - Cook the Cauliflower:
Transfer the processed cauliflower to a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for about 4-5 minutes, or until soft. Remove it from the microwave and allow it to cool slightly. Once it’s cool enough to handle, place it in a clean kitchen towel or cheesecloth and squeeze out as much moisture as you can. This step is crucial as it helps prevent a soggy pizza base. - Make the Dough:
In a bowl, combine the drained cauliflower with the Parmesan, mozzarella, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and garlic powder. Mix well to form a dough-like consistency. Spread this mixture onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, shaping it into a pizza crust about 1/4 inch thick. - Bake the Base:
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are crispy and lightly browned. Remove from oven and let it cool for a few minutes. - Add Toppings and Bake Again:
Once your base is ready, add your favorite pizza toppings—such as tomato sauce, more cheese, vegetables, and meats. Return the pizza to the oven and bake for another 10-15 minutes until the toppings are cooked and the cheese is bubbly. Try topping with Butter chicken curry
