Ingredients

Serves 2

  • 1 cup Rice, long grain
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 2 cups Water
  • 2 tsp Jeera (cumin) seeds

Directions

  1. Rinse the rice until you are able to see the long white grains clearly through the water.
  2. Let the rice soak in the water for 10 minutes.
  3. Add oil to a wok or similar and let that heat for a few seconds on medium flame/heat.
  4. Add cumin seeds and let the seeds crackle a little, just a few seconds until it releases its flavour.
  5. Now add the basmati rice and the water, cover with a lid and let cook for 10 minutes on medium flame/heat.
  6. After 10 minutes, turn off the heat and let the rice stay covered for 5 minutes on absolute do-not-touch mode.
  7. After 5 minutes, take the lid off, mix well so that all the cumin that is at the corners get mixed up with the rice.
  8. Serve with a pickle or curry.

Tip:  Use a long grain basmati rice for best results:)
